Where to Eat and Drink in Duluth Right Now

By: Twincities.eater.com, Joy Summers | June 14, 2019

One of the most breathtaking cities in the state is suddenly having a bit of a restaurant revolution. Sure, Grandma’s and Fitger’s Brewhouse are still the classics, but there are a slew of new and intriguing restaurants and breweries that are worth the quick road trip up I35 to check out.

1. Duluth's Best Bread

2632 W 3rd St
Duluth, MN 55806

(218) 590-5966

Arrive early to get the best pick of these sweet, morning treats. The chocolate croissants and cinnamon buns don’t last long.

2. OMC Smokehouse

1909 W Superior St
Duluth, MN 55806

Summer is made for sticky fingers and barbecue and this spot in Duluth’s thriving Lincoln Park is the kind of eating that will occupy all the conversation on the road trip back home. There’s outside seating and s’mores, but still often a huge wait. The service is not great, better to call for take out or have the Food Dudes deliver over to one of the nearby breweries or cideries.

3. Love Creamery

Duluth, MN 55806

A simply gorgeous ice cream and coffee shop on the West Side. It’s open every day from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. So, there are zero excuses for going to bed at night without first having some ice cream.

4. Corktown Deli & Brews

Sandwiches made with in-house meats from the same ownership group that runs the Duluth Grill. This casual place is often packed. Like other places in this area, grab and sandwich and go see the city.

5. Bent Paddle Brewing Co. Taproom + Offices

1832 W Michigan St floor 1
Duluth, MN 55806

(218) 279-2722

Check out this swank taproom for well-loved, locally brewed beer and catch the occasional live show. There’s a patio for when the weather cooperates (always pack a sweatshirt for Duluth), but there are huge windows so it always feels like a perfect Duluth day inside. There are several food spots that deliver here as well, in fact OMC barbecue tastes even better paired with a KanÅ« here.

Super roomy space to drink Bent Paddle beer

6. Pier B Resort Hotel

800 W Railroad St
Duluth, MN 55802

Inside a hotel that faces Bayfront, this hotel restaurant is serving some tasty fare with a gorgeous patio with killer lift bridge views. Because it’s hotel, this is also a great spot for breakfast. Try just about anything served with the hollandaise.

7. Duluth Coffee Company

105 E Superior St
Duluth, MN 55802

A town that’s often cold demands great coffee, but in the fleeting summer, order the nitro cold-press. Eric Faust’s downtown Duluth Coffee Company remains the best brew around and, if anything, it’s gotten even better with its new expanded roastery next door. Duluth Coffee Company has also just opened up a satellite in Canal Park.

Just a short walk from Canal Park in downtown

8. Lake Avenue

394 S Lake Ave
Duluth, MN 55802

(218) 722-2355

Lake Avenue is not new, but the menu changes often enough to stay fresh and interesting. It’s an ideal stop for a romantic night near the lake and the wine list is exceptional.

Dinner specials change often, like this scallop dish

9. Vikre Distillery

525 S Lake Ave
Duluth, MN 55802

This cocktail room attached to the distillery just got a remodel and it’s even better than ever for a crisp gin cocktail. This is a quality cocktail spot right in the heart of touristy Canal Park. Try the stunning cheese plate paired with one of those cocktails.

Try an Old Fashioned with the Sugar Bush whiskey

10. Boat Club Restaurant

600 E Superior St
Duluth, MN 55802

On the lower level of the Fitger’s complex, this quiet, off-the-beaten path restaurant affords some stunning lake views and a few coveted outdoor seats.
