Find It In Duluth

October 10: Find It In Duluth!

A beer choir, a brew and games fundraiser, trick-or-treating, and mountain biking - per usual, there is all kinds of fun happening in Duluth this week!

Happy Wednesday! Happy powerful, windy, stormy, wet Wednesday. Lake Superior is showcasing her fury today, causing localized flooding in Canal Park and a few other areas. We hope the damage is not significant, but that great lake is a force of nature and we will simply have to wait it out. In the meantime, folks love to see the waves! Head on over to the Duluth Harbor Cam to see all the action up close while staying dry and better yet – safe!

The weather looks to improve after today, which is great, because we have a lot of fun events going on in Duluth this weekend!

First up, Thursday, October 11, from 7-9pm, the Beer Choir Twin Cities is visiting “beer crazy” Duluth at an event at Bent Paddle! What’s a Beer Choir, you ask? Something I, too, had to look up. Basically, you get to become the singers! According to their website – “Encouraged by one or two outgoing Song Leaders, and supported by a kindly pianist, attendees BECOME the choir that sings while drinking beer. Grab a Hymnal—our songbook that will guide the evening—and a pint and get ready to join in on traditional drinking songs from Europe and America, some popular tunes and hymns, and a handful of adventurous choral songs.” Doesn’t that sound fun!? Anyway, you don’t need to be the next American Idol contestant to be a part of this – just show up! Curious? Details, here.

Saturday, October 13, head on over to Hoops Brewing for the Extra Life fundraiser benefitting Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare and Minnesota's Children's Miracle Network. It's an all-day affair of brews and board games, with prizes awarded throughout the event. I mean, they will literally be playing games for over 10 hours to raise funds for sick kids - what a way to give back! All are welcome. Suggested donation at the door is $5 for individuals and $10 for families. The event runs from 11am-Midnight with kids events until 3pm. More info.

Also Saturday, a favorite Duluth Halloween event is back for another year of trick-or-treating, games, activities, and ZOO ANIMALS! It’s Boo at the Zoo, of course. New this year, a Jurassic World themed play area with a fun Jurassic Park Jeep photo opportunity & games! All the activities are designed to be fun for kids, not scary. Advance tickets are $9 or $10 at the door. Boo at the Zoo runs this Saturday, and NEXT Saturday, October 20 from 10am-4pm. Tickets.

And on Sunday, October 14 – 1,000 high school students from across Minnesota will be racing at Spirit Mountain. It’s the MN High School Cycling League Racing Series. This is technically Race #6. Racing through Spirit Mountain, the 3.8-mile course has the view and the trails that the racers will enjoy. Saturday the riders will be practicing on the trails, so it’s important to note that all trails will be closed to other riders at Spirit Mountain this weekend. Get the details.
