Find It In Duluth

April 11: Find It In Duluth!

Hello, spring! Are you there? Winter weather holds on, but beer, live music, and shopping will keep you entertained indoors this weekend!

By: Maarja Anderson Hewitt | April 11, 2018

Helllooooooo and happy Wednesday! Spring is here, we think. Well, Mother Nature is perhaps playing an extended April Fool's joke on us. But hang in there, folks - WE ARE IN THIS TOGETHER! If you are still looking to get some spring skiing in at Spirit Mountain - they announced Wednesday afternoon they are now officially closed for the winter season. In their Tweet, they said "Thank you to all of our pass holders, guests, staff members, and volunteers for your continued support and all the good times."

No matter the weather this week - there is still plenty to do indoors. Here we go!

Bent Paddle Brewing Co. is moving into their new, beautiful taproom! It's just a block down from their original taproom - so not hard to find! The new taproom is located at 1832 Michigan St. and it is 5,500 square feet of space, offering all kinds of different seating and games. The grand opening is Thursday, April 12 from 5 -10pm. You can find details on live music and small bites here. And, you can check out the new taproom all weekend, too. Their Grand Opening weekend hours are Friday and Saturday from noon to 11pm and Sunday 11am to 7pm. Please note there will be no regular tours on Grand Opening weekend.

Head a little further west this weekend to Beaner's Central for a full two days of live music!  It's the 16th Annual Beaner’s Central One Week Live Release! This year's album showcases 19 live performances recorded last fall. The celebration begins Friday, April 13 with NudeColors, The Latelys, Blake Thomas, and Jacob Mahon performing. Then, grab some friends for brunch on Saturday with live music courtesy Gavin Saint Clair and Lesser Planets, AND the music continues Saturday night with Woodblind, Jen West, Dan Dresser, and Average Mammals! Take home a free CD Friday and Saturday night with a paid cover of $7. For a full schedule check out Beaner's website.

Now to the east side of Duluth. This Saturday, April 14, is the second Saturday of the month and that means the Nice Girls of the North will be hosting their monthly Marketplace at the Lakeside Lester Park Community Center! Over a dozen local, female artists will have their work on display from 10am-3pm. Check out some of what will be for sale on their Facebook page. They make it easy with one checkout and major credit cards are accepted.

And looking ahead - you still have time to register for this year’s Fitger’s 5K, put on by Grandma’s Marathon. The race is Saturday, April 21 at 9am and it takes runners through downtown Duluth into Canal Park, finishing back at Fitger’s. They cap the race at 2,000 runners - so register soon! All net proceeds from the 5K benefit the Young Athletes Foundation. Head to grandmasmarathon.com to register. Also, if a participant ran the Saint Fennessy 4k and now decides to run Fitger’s 5k – they can still upgrade to the KP Challenge by calling the Grandma's Marathon office.

That’s all for this week's blog! Don’t forget to head to visitduluth.com/events to see what else you can find happening in Duluth this week.

Happy Adventuring!
