December 19: Find It in Duluth

Less than a week until Christmas! Still trying to fit in some holiday fun? We have options!

By: Maarja Anderson Hewitt | December 19, 2018

Happy Wednesday before Christmas! Once again, I feel as if we have blinked and December has flown by. This will be our final “This Week” blog for a while – a three month or so hiatus while I am on maternity leave. But you will still have plenty of ways to find all the fun things happening in Duluth. Be sure to follow our Facebook and Twitter page for updates, and you can always use our Event Calendar as a great resource, too!

Let’s take a look at this week:

Looking for some fresh goodies for your holiday meals? The Lincoln Park Winter Farmers Market takes over the Duluth Folk School Thursday, December 20 from 4-7pm. The market is hosted the first and third Thursday of the month, November-March. The Duluth Folk School is located at 1917 W. Superior St.

Also, Thursday, meet the executive director of ITVFest! City officials announced the independent television festival would be moving to Duluth last week and now the public has the chance to learn more about the festival and what it means for our beautiful city. Philip Gilpin will break it all down for the public at Zeitgeist Teatro Zuccone at 5:30pm. Plus, he is going to be joined by a very special guest – Cirina Catania, co-founder of the Sundance Film Festival! Bring friends and your questions! This event is free and open to the public.

You’ve probably heard of Bentleyville, but did you know there is another free walk through lighting display in Duluth? Marcia Hales has created a magical tradition that many have enjoyed for years on Park Point. She invites the public to enjoy her light display on the shore of Lake Superior and offers ciders, cookies, and marshmallows for roasting. The display is located at 3739 South Lake Avenue. Marcia’s display is open every evening through January 5 – Sunday-Thursday 5-9pm, Friday & Saturday 5-10pm.

Sunday, December 23, the NorShor Theatre continues their Classic Film Series with another favorite. It’s A Wonderful Life will be shown at 3pm and 7pm. Tickets are $12 with concessions available. The Classic Film Series is held monthly. More info here.

Festive fun ongoing throughout the month of December:

Of course, Monday and Tuesday are Christmas Eve and Christmas Day! Visit Duluth offices will be closed for both holidays. If you're looking for dining options for either day, here is a list of our partners who will be open. Please note – hours are subject to change:
