Happy Wednesday! We are enjoying beautiful weather here in Duluth and everyone seems to be happy about it! I am headed to a conference next week, so we are fitting not one, but TWO week's worth of fun in this week's blog. So much happening in Duluth through Memorial Day Weekend.
First up, TONIGHT! A sight so many of us love here in Duluth is back. The Duluth Yacht Club's Wednesday Night Sailboat Races get underway tonight and will run every Wednesday through the summer - though, not on July 4th. The Fitger's Courtyard is a great place to watch - or really anywhere you can see the lake!
On Friday, May 18, head to the Lake Superior Zoo for their Earth Tracks event! Wildlife biologists, naturalists, and educators from across the region will be at the zoo from 10am-2pm for 18 hands-on learning and activity stations. This event takes place on Endangered Species Day.
The 8th Annual Duluth Dylan Fest begins Saturday, May 19 and runs through Sunday, May 27. They have a jam-packed schedule, celebrating Duluth's "Native Son." See Bob Dylan's childhood home, enjoy a rolling-train music fest, and visit several art shows. In fact, a highlight of this year's festival is a text-based art installation at the Duluth Depot. Artist Skye has created 44 fabric song-panels, each hand-stenciled with a different Bob Dylan song. Find the full Dylan Fest schedule at bobdylanway.com.
The Veterans Memorial Hall is once again hosting their 5K Fun Run/Walk, Saturday, May 19. The race begins at 9am at the Other Place Bar & Grille. The event is open to all ages. Registration information can be found here.
The 3rd Annual Ladies Mountain Bike 101 is slated for Tuesday, May 22 at Spirit Mountain's Grand Avenue Chalet. The evening is designed for those new or newer to mountain biking. Last year, they had 70 women come to the event. Their whole goal is to get more women out on the trails! No need to register, just show up - Tuesday from 5:30-8pm.
Wednesday, May 23, take a ride on the North Shore Scenic Railroad for Music, Rails, and Ales as part of Lupus Awareness Month. On board, enjoy local brewery samples, pizza, and a cash bar. Tickets are limited and all proceeds benefit Lupus Link Minnesota. Click here for ticket information.
Memorial Day Weekend - Duluth will host a big beach volleyball tournament! See elite amateurs and pros compete in the sand at Skyline Lanes. Check out tmpbeachvolleyball.com for information on registering.
On Memorial Day, May 28, honor the fallen at Duluth's annual Memorial Day Parade. The parade begins at 12:30pm at 59th Ave W and Grand Avenue.
And on Wednesday, May 30, the Duluth Superior Film Festival begins! Five days of films, filmmaker discussions, and music. All the film showings are FREE! Head to ds-ff.com for a full schedule.
Be sure to check our Event Calendar to find more of what's happening in Duluth. We hope to see you soon!
