Seasons

Duluth is a four-season city — as breathtaking in winter white as it is in summer green. Come any time of year, and you’ll find an entirely new place to explore. The quiet of our forests and the splendor of the Lake Superior shoreline mesh into a getaway experience that will both relax and rejuvenate you.

While you are here, be sure to spend some time visiting Lake Superior, the world’s largest freshwater lake. It’s part of everything we do here in Duluth, Minnesota, and it’s one of the most compelling reasons to visit. See why »

SPRING
During April and May, our city transforms from winter’s canvas to summer’s palette. Ships begin their season passage under the majestic Aerial Lift Bridge. And as things thaw out, you’ll find it’s the perfect time—with the perfect temps—for some high-energy biking or trail running. Plus, this is one of the best times of year to find deals.

SUMMER
This is the place to be. Warm (yet comfortable!) weather, blue skies and vivid purple-and-orange sunsets. During the summertime, our city comes alive with visitors here to enjoy our world-class shopping, dining, events and attractions. If you’re here to get outside—and why wouldn’t you be—revel in our vast, colorful playground, where you’ll find outdoor adventures suited for any adrenaline level.

FALL
It’s light-jacket weather as autumn’s crispness takes hold on the city by the bay. It’s ideal weather for hiking, biking, camping or a leisurely drive. And, as the summer season winds down, you’ll find our city is even more peaceful. And the colors will take your breath away.

WINTER
Challenge snow-covered runs and the Midwest’s largest terrain park at Spirit Mountain. Explore miles of trails perfect for snowmobiling, skiing and snowshoeing. Start a new holiday tradition with a stay at one of our cozy bed- and-breakfast inns.
