CRACKER

Cracker, the group that veritably introduced brash irreverence and irony into alt-rock, are back and in top form on their 429 Records debut, Sunrise In The Land Of Milk And Honey.

This rich new trove of sharp-witted songs showcases a bristling, late 70’s – early 80’s power pop punk aesthetic which hits as hard as it did at the band’s formation 17 years ago. Eight albums (one platinum and three gold) and a barrel full of anthemic hit songs later, Cracker endures, using their ability to weave decades of influences into an album that is seamlessly riveting.

Mason Jennings

It all kinda started at Christmas when my sons and I were hanging ornaments on the tree. We have an ornament that is a little electric guitar and my six-year-old son was looking at it and asked, “What’s this Dad?”

I said, “What??? It’s an electric guitar.”

To which he replied, “What’s that?”

Well, I was kinda horrified so I ran downstairs and pulled out an old hollowbody electric (that is my wife’s), an amp and I came upstairs, plugged it in and ripped into “My Generation” by The Who. Well, my one son actually climbed me in point 2 seconds and leaped off my shoulders while the other one looked like I had plugged the lights on the tree into him. They flew around the room dancing for two straight wonderful hours. I got the point. I grew up playing only electric and it was like remembering how to be free. For many reasons, it was so needed. So I got free.

Haley Bonar

Everything changed for me when I left my home state for a new adventure and landed in the metropolis of Duluth, MN. At an open stage called “Experimental Thursdays,” I brought my guitar and Farfisa organ and played a few originals and a cover of “California Dreamin’.” Little did I know that one of my musical idols, Alan Sparhawk of Low, was in the small audience. When I finished, he promptly approached me and asked me if I would open for Low on their upcoming tour. He eventually released my new album his Chairkicker’s Union label the following spring. Before I knew it, I had quit school, crammed my Honda Civic full of gear with my drummer, and was opening for Low across the country I had barely seen. I was twenty years old.

Heiruspecs

As decreed by the Mayor of St. Paul, Christopher B. Coleman, Saturday December 22, 2007 was officially Heiruspecs day. Heiruspecs celebrated by playing two sold out Ten Year Anniversary shows in St. Paul and releasing a limited edition full length disc with out of print or unreleased songs and five brand new songs, titled "Ten Years Strong". After the merch got counted and the openers got paid Heiruspecs, and a group of their close friends, walked the half block back to their rehearsal space, shared a couple high fives, drank champagne and celebrated ten years of Heiruspecs. Upon finishing his second glass of champagne the mayor of St. Paul leaned over to Heiruspecs and handed them a biography of Heiruspecs and a briefcase brimming with pardons for unpaid parking tickets. It goes like this:

Retribution Gospel

The most important thing to know about the rock trio Retribution Gospel Choir is that they are likely the most physically fit band on Earth. Drummer Eric Pollard is a distance swimmer, and Ultimate Frisbee champion with state basketball credentials. Bassist Steve Garrington also dazzles on the court, but it’s his long-distance running skills that mark him a champion. Alan Sparhawk, who plays guitar and sings, has extensive experience in American football, has been scouted for coaching work and stays fit as a distance trail runner and member of the band Low. Certainly, this trio would destroy any other band in a 10k race, and then still do the gig.

AM Rubin

AM Rubin is "Possibly the most eclectic father/son band ever!" AM RUBIN, a pair of local entertainers who are often mistaken for brothers, sing songs that tell stories. Driven by the soaring sounds of son Tony Rubin's Telecaster and Martin and rooted with the integrity of father Mark Rubin's rumbling bass and sweet guitar, the duo represents the diversity and connectivity of music that appeals to most and can best be described as good...real good.

Matt Moberg

Every so often we encounter music that not only moves around us but ends up moving inside of us as well. This kind of art is intrusively strong, emotive and pure. It is organic in its nature and completely isolated from the meat market of pop culture that clogs our radios today. Passionate fans go out looking to get their hands on this art but are often disappointed to find that it is a rare artifact that many believe to be extinct. Those of course who make this claim and subscribe to this belief, have never stepped inside the sounds of Matt Moberg, singer/songwriter reigning from Minneapolis, Minnesota.
