SPOTLIGHT ON A MEMBER
Lori Steinbach, Office Manager, Visit Duluth
Our spotlight on a member for January is Positive Energy Outdoor (ed) Ventures. Thank you Stephanie Love for answering our questions.
Stephanie and Blake started their business in 2004 and since it is a home based business, the location was chosen for them. They like their location which is near Duluth but still away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
They are a non-profit business with proceeds from adult and family programming that helps support out-of-school time options for youth-serving agencies and organizations in Northeast Minnesota. They are excited to help people explore the outdoors, creating learning opportunities that can lead to lifetime of active adventures. Combined, they have thirty years experience, offer one on one personal attention to individuals and are very proud of what has been accomplished.
Positive Energy Outdoor (ed) Ventures served more than 2,000 kids this past year; teaching people how to drive draft horses and the dog sled. People have come from as far away as England and the Netherlands to learn how to dog sled.
Positive Energy Outdoor (ed) Ventures joined Visit Duluth in 2004. They became members because it was highly recommended by other members and they knew they would benefit from the high traffic on the VISD website.
When not teaching classes and helping out the local youth, Stephanie enjoys the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon and the Two Harbors Kayak Festival. Both are family oriented events.
She really enjoys working with kids and seeing excitement on their faces when they accomplish something they didn’t think they could do.

CONVENTION SALES NEWS
Anna Tanski, Director of Sales, Visit Duluth
The first quarter of the New Year starts off with a bang in the convention sales department. In February, Anne Bubacz will attend the Conference Direct trade show in Chicago. Visit Duluth and the DECC are participating in this show for the first time and anticipate a strong return based on market research and geographic location. Later that month the VISD/DECC team exhibits at Destinations Showcase in Washington, DC. A private luncheon for meeting planners will be held in conjunction with this show, featuring Congressman Jim Oberstar as the keynote speaker.
Another “first” in 2007 will be a sales mission to Kansas City and St. Louis. This region represents a significant number of potential new clients who plan meetings in the Midwest. Several hotels will partner on this new venture in March.
Visit Duluth continues to expand its convention sales efforts - stay tuned for more “firsts” in the months ahead!
GROUP TOUR NEWS
Mary Nelson, Director of Packaged Travel, Visit Duluth
The start of a new year always brings a renewed feeling of optimism and the Packaged Travel Department is looking forward to the challenges coming our way.
The opportunity to entice more group tours to Duluth is always exciting. One venue we use is the School/Youth Guide. The new version is now being mailed and we look forward to hosting these groups as they experience our attractions, stay overnight in our hotels and eat in our restaurants.
If you would like additional members of your staff to receive the Membership News Brief, please contact Gail Walkowiak at gailw@visitduluth.com or call (218) 625-8104.
