SPOTLIGHT ON A MEMBER
Lori Steinbach and Lisa Sundberg, Visit Duluth
Visit Duluth’s Spotlight on a Member for October is Comfort Zone Therapeutic Massage. Thank you to Jan Oltmanns, owner, for answering our questions about her business.
Comfort Zone started in December 2000, in the Hunter Building. The business was relocated to the Technology Village in 2005. The new site was chosen for expansion of the business, upscale of office space, improved visibility and building security, customer parking accessibility, and the building is very well maintained.
Comfort Zone is a medical based massage therapy business with multiple additional services. The massage incorporates Relaxation massage, Deep Tissue-Neuromuscular Therapy, Lymphatic Massage, Pregnancy Massage, Sports Massage for the athlete, Craniofacial Therapy, Myofascial Release, and the use of Essential Oils for Raindrop Therapy. The other services include Acupuncture, Shiatsu, Reflexology, and Yoga. The therapists at Comfort Zone are highly trained in individualizing each session to match the needs of the client. Our purpose is to assist the individual through treatment and education in maintaining or striving towards good health.
The business was nominated for the Labovitz Award in 2002 and 2006, which was an honor. Most important is the business has become a regular and sought after participant in charitable and community events. Comfort Zone regularly participates in the Heart Walk, Relay for Life, Go Red for Women, Minnesota Ballet contributor, Earth Day, and the Lake Superior Zoo. Comfort Zone is a group that will go to businesses for Health Fairs and special events. They participate in Chair Massage events all over the city and are one phone call away.
Jan joined Visit Duluth because Visit Duluth is a connection to the community and tourists who visit our unique city. Duluth nestles in a steep hillside overlooking Lake Superior and the St. Louis River basin. On Duluth’s doorstep are hundreds of miles of the beautifully rugged North Shore of Lake Superior. Anyone would enjoy a trip to Duluth, and Visit Duluth exclaims the city's attributes. Comfort Zone joined Visit Duluth as a member shortly after opening, and has been involved with activities ever since. She appreciates the insight and guidance that the office offers to her business. Visit Duluth is a vital service to Downtown Duluth, and Comfort Zone enjoys being a part of this beautiful city.
Jan says there is nothing like summertime in Duluth, and summertime is defined in Downtown Duluth by Rock the Block and Sidewalk Days. Everyone enjoys being outdoors for these events. Comfort Zone offers chair massage at Rock the Block in time to the music, and during Sidewalk Days we offer chair massage to busy shoppers.
Thank you, Comfort Zone Therapeutic Massage for being our spotlight on a member.

CONVENTION SALES
Julie Johnson and Anne Bubacz, Visit Duluth
FALL BUSINESS
Many in the industry consider the fall season peak for not only leisure travel, but conventions as well. The fall season in Duluth is always in high demand for meetings. The beautiful autumn colors, warm temperatures and number of outdoor activities attract many groups to our area.
We kicked off this season with a number of exciting Naval reunions, State Associations, National and International groups. Most of the groups selected Duluth specifically because of our environmental and conservation qualities. The Visit Duluth sales team is making “Green Meetings” a priority and plan to see more meetings develop from these efforts!
“WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT VISIT DULUTH”
”When we made our annual pilgrimage in September, we were walking on Superior Street to Ameriprise, a company in a building a few from yours. I looked up and saw your 'Visit Duluth' sign and thought I'd died & gone to heaven. I thought you were only a website ... I had no idea you had an office and handle Duluth tourism.
The two women working were so friendly and so nice - they gave us magnets, maps and some pens. I'm sure they thought I was some kind of nutcase as I walked in and said, "Wow, I didn't know you really existed! I read your website every night!" Ha! It cracked me up as the backdrop mural was the Paul R. Tregertha - you even have our favorite ship on the wall!
The last thing my husband, Eric, and I pray for at night is, "Please, move us to Duluth... soon ... Lord .... soon!!!!" I think we have the only cars in the State of Missouri with, "I love Duluth" stickers in the back windows.
I SO enjoy your Web site and e-mail on "What's Happening in Duluth” this month.
Keep up the wonderful work. You promote the city so well. But then, how do you improve on perfection?
Thanks and take care!”
Cynthia N. from Missouri
