SPOTLIGHT ON A MEMBER
Lori Steinbach and Lisa Sundberg, Visit Duluth
Visit Duluth’s Spotlight on a Member for November is Coppola Art Imports. Thank you to Antonio and Aura Coppola, owners, for answering our questions about their business.
Antonio and Aura opened Coppola Art Imports, an Italian ceramics store, in September 2001. It features the largest selection of imported Italian ceramics in the Midwest including patterns from every region of Italy. The Coppola’s have personal relationships with each factory that paint all of the ceramics by hand and the original family business, is located in Sorrento, Italy and is still run by Antonio Coppola’s parents.
“We chose our location because of the lake and this is such a wonderful area to belong to,” said Aura. “We love Lake Superior!”
Three years ago the Coppola’s established Vista di Duluth, two condominiums directly above their retail store. They knew they had something special but never dreamed of the wonderful responses and new friendships these unique condos would provide. They have really enjoyed meeting so many wonderful people from Duluth, Minneapolis and all over the world that love coming here. “Our customers are not just customers, they become friends,” said Aura.
Coppola Art Imports joined Visit Duluth because they believe the city is such an incredible tourist destination and wanted to be a part of the special services it provides tourists. Aura sees visitduluth.com as a particularly helpful tool for visitors and locals alike and feels fortunate to be part of an organization that offers so many resources.
During their free time the Coppola’s enjoy many local events at Chester Bowl and Bayfront Park including the Whippersnapper races, and ice skating and visiting the rock beaches along the Lake. “We live in Duluth because of Lake Superior and it is such a beautiful, safe place to raise a family,” said Aura.
Thank you, Coppola Art Imports for being our spotlight on a member.

GROUP TOUR NEWS
Mary Nelson, Director of Packaged Travel, Visit Duluth
The Packaged Travel Department has just returned from the NTA (National Tour Association) Convention in Kansas City and the OMCA (Ontario Motor Coach Association) Convention in Ottawa.
Both of these shows use a 5-7 minute meeting format and Visit Duluth had a good number of appointments at both. There is interest in our area as a destination and also as a stop on longer tours.
A number of our state’s convention and visitor bureaus, lodging properties and attractions attended NTA and gave us a chance to cross sell our area to a broader audience.
In the coming weeks we’ll be mailing information to each of the operators we talked with and are busy preparing for another round of trade shows in early 2008.
2008 HOSPITALITY MINNESOTA: WHERE TO STAY & DINE GUIDE

Inclusion in the guide is free to members of the Minnesota Restaurant Association and is available to nonmembers for $400. For more information, please contact Trish Stevens at (651) 778-2400 or trish@hospitalitymn.com by Friday, November 30.
