SPOTLIGHT ON A MEMBER
Lori Steinbach and Lisa Sundberg, Visit Duluth

Our spotlight on a member for February is Spirit Mountain. Visit Duluth extends our appreciation to Renee Mattson of Spirit Mountain, for answering our questions.

Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall. In addition to being Duluth’s premier winter attraction, Spirit Mountain is a spectacular four-season venue for weddings, meetings, banquets and special events. Winter season activities are primarily skiing; Nordic, alpine, snowboarding, telemark, and cross country. “Spring, summer and fall enhance many activities at Spirit Mountain,” said Renee Mattson, executive director. “Many events are held throughout the year using the grounds and banquet facilities.”

Camping, hiking, and biking are recreational opportunities visitors can enjoy during the “other” three seasons. The seasonal Supper Club debuted last summer and was a great success according to Mattson. Chef Gareth Bates prepares a number of signature dishes accompanied by relish trays, and pate’. There are fourteen themed special events scheduled this year, which include an Italian menu, a German evening, and Mothers day brunch, just to name a few.

“One of the finest assets of Spirit Mountain is the spectacular view of Lake Superior,” said Mattson. “The sunrises, sunsets, waves, storms, and shipping traffic are magnificent enjoyment and entertainment. Spirit Mountain truly is a four season resort.”

Spirit Mountain has been a member of Visit Duluth since it was established in 1974. Mattson said membership is a tremendous tool the resort utilizes to promote and inform the public of what it has to offer as a four season recreational resort.
