Congratulations to Visit Duluth Board Chair Kristi Schmidt on her recent appointment as the Director of Marketing and Public Relations for SMDC Health Systems. Kristi had served as SMDC’s Marketing Manager since 2006. Prior to that, she was a recruiter in physician and provider recruitment.

BROCHURE EXCHANGES
The second of five brochure exchanges will be held Thursday, May 14 from 2 pm-4 pm in the Visit Duluth conference room. If you have brochures, we would love to display them. Bring in your brochure and pick up other members’ brochures, as well as the new 2009 Visitor Guide. We will distribute your brochures to the waterfront information center as well.

Snacks and beverages will be served. Hope to see you all there!

SPOTLIGHT ON A MEMBER

Our spotlight on a member for April is Restaurant 301 by Bob Bennett. Visit Duluth extends our appreciation to Chef Bob Bennett and Ashley Chezick for their response.

Local chef Bob Bennett started at the Restaurant 301, which is inside the Sheraton Duluth Hotel, in November of 2007. Bob is the former proprietor of Bennett’s on the Lake. Bob stated that one of their main goals is letting the community know that Restaurant 301 and the Sheraton Duluth Hotel are managed locally and open to the public, and invite you to stop in for lunch, dinner, or drinks.

Bob states, “Some of my fondest memories are working with my staff and catering at different venues, such as concerts at Bayfront Park. I have also had the pleasure of having International Dignitaries and celebrities dine in my restaurant.”

The Sheraton Duluth Hotel & Restaurant 301 joined Visit Duluth when they opened in 2007 to be involved with the community.

Bob commented that the best event he has seen, since living in Duluth, was the tall ship festival because of its tremendous success.

Ashley Chezick adds, “The new Web site for Restaurant 301 is now live. On the site, visitors can access our calendar of events and sign up for our newsletter. We also have our menus and pictures of staff, banquet rooms and food!

2009 IS THE YEAR TO SHOWCASE DULUTH
In the ongoing effort to remind meeting planners of the exceptional value Duluth provides, Visit Duluth, the DECC, hotel partners and attractions will showcase our City during a familiarization tour scheduled in late August. The 24 hour high impact, high efficiency model provides the planners with the maximum exposure to meeting venues in the least amount of time away from the office.

Duluth was also awarded the Midwest Society of Association Executives (MSAE) fall leadership conference October 25-27. This conference draws attendees from MN, ND and SD who work for associations and represents another fantastic opportunity to demonstrate why Duluth is a first-class meeting and convention destination.
