SPOTLIGHT ON A MEMBER
Lori Steinbach, Travel Information Manager, Visit Duluth

Visit Duluth’s Spotlight on a Member for September is the Mathew S. Burrows 1890 Inn Bed and Breakfast. Thank you to Alan and Kathy Fink for answering our questions.

Alan and Kathy Fink had looked around Duluth in 1994 knowing that they wanted to live and work here. They were interested in operating a B & B and had made an appointment to look at the Olcott House, but it sold the day before they arrived in town. They went back home and saw in ad in the Chicago Tribune about the Mathew S. Burrows Inn. They toured it, fell in love with it, and bought it in 1995; however, it has been a Bed and Breakfast for over twenty years. They are currently restoring the outside of the home.

Alan and Kathy added that they are fun, friendly people and that shows when you stay at their home, they also offer great food and really enjoy getting to know their guests.

They have had weddings at the Inn, mostly second marriages, or very small ceremonies but the weddings are always fun. Also enjoyable is the Holidays Teas they have had in the past for Christmas cheer is evident on everyone’s faces and all are happy and having a good time.

Alan and Kathy joined Visit Duluth as soon as they opened their business. The one thing they noticed in touring the B&B’s was they all had the visitor guide. Alan added that it was and still is the main promotional marketing piece for Duluth. Visit Duluth handles all the ads for you, so it was not even a question to join. Currently the guide is coupled with the Web site, which is a great tool and is a great way to advertise.

When not busy with guests, they both enjoy the Polar Express and all the festivities that surround the event. The Fink’s would like everyone to know that Bed and Breakfasts are very relaxing places before and after the holidays or if you are looking for a very warm and inviting place to get away.

Thank you to the Mathew S. Burrows 1890 Inn Bed and Breakfast, for being our spotlight on a member.
