SPOTLIGHT ON A MEMBER Lori Steinbach and
Lisa Sundberg, Visit Duluth
Our spotlight on a member for
February is The Stamping Post. Visit Duluth extends our appreciation
to Sue Wentz, co-owner, for her response.
“We opened our
business on March 10, 1997. It started out as a mother/daughter
partnership. I’m currently running the business and in the process
of buying my mother's half,” says Sue.
“We chose West Duluth
as a location for our store because we thought it would be centrally
located for what we thought would be our customer base. Our customer
base has now expanded as far away as the Twin Cities, Ashland, The
Range and Canada.”
Sue states “We are Northern Minnesota's
largest supplier of rubber stamping and scrapbooking supplies. We
offer classes, personalized stamps and great customer
service.”
“The people we have met and the friends we have
made through the business have been such a blessing in our
lives.
Owning my own business has given me the flexibility to
spend more time with my two daughters who are 22 months and 1 month
old. Those are memorable moments that just go by too
quickly.
After 10 years I still enjoy coming to work. I have
wonderful employees and great customers. I wouldn't trade it for
anything.
During the summer, I enjoy spending time in Canal
Park and on the Lake walk. I think the city is a beautiful place to
live in and to visit. During the holidays, I enjoy traveling around
town and the surrounding areas to look at Christmas lights. I think
people here really get into the Holiday spirit and spread the
joy.
We joined Visit Duluth shortly after we opened. We felt
it would be a good way to get our name out to people in Duluth and
those traveling to Duluth.
In the 10+ years that I have been
in business, I have tried many forms of advertising. I have found
that the Visit Duluth Guide has been my best spent dollar. I would
like to say thank you for putting together such a beautiful
brochure. Also, thank you for selecting The Stamping Post as the
“Spotlight on a Member,” it is a real honor.”

CONVENTION SALES NEWS Julie Johnson, Senior Sales
Manager, Visit Duluth
“NEW YEAR CONVENTION
GROUPS” The new year of 2008 is kicking off with a great
start!
Duluth is host to a variety of new convention groups,
as well as returning groups.
We started off the new year with
an “ALL ABOARD!” The Railroad Passenger Car Alliance rolled into
town celebrating their events at the Lake Superior Railroad Museum
and Radisson. The Juvenile Officers will follow their lead for their
3rd annual conference in Duluth. 2008 also brings educational
groups! The Center for Early Education and Development will be
enjoying Duluth for the first time and the Special Educators will be
here to address the needs of twenty-first century learners in
special education.
These are just a few of the many meeting
groups that will be here this year. Please join Visit Duluth in this
New Year excitement and welcome these groups to Duluth!
GROUP TOUR NEWS Mary Nelson, Director of Packaged
Travel, Visit Duluth
There are a number of tradeshows the
Packaged Travel Department is participating in for 2008. These shows
provide the opportunity to update contacts and reach out to new tour
operators and group leaders.
The American Bus Association
Marketplace took place February 1-7. This year, ABA Marketplace
offered more exposure for Visit Duluth than taking appointments with
tour operators. We were part of Explore Minnesota Tourism’s booth
which highlighted Minnesota food products and was a tremendous
success. Wild rice salad, grilled SPAM, buttered lefse and a 25 #
Pearson’s Salted Nut Roll were on the menu!
Future tradeshows
include Heartland Travel Showcase (our first time attending) March
7-9 followed by Heritage Club Peer Group Conference, April
9-13.
Fast Fact: “One overnight motorcoach visit is worth
$5,000 - $11,000 to a local economy.” This is from American Bus
Association’s Web site, www.buses.org.
