Happy Wednesday! You may have heard we had a bit of a snow event Thanksgiving weekend. Nearly two feet – TWO FEET – of snow fell on the city, and though it has taken a few days, we HAVE DUG OUT! And it’s back to business as usual. We have a ton of holiday fun packed into this weekend, and the snow makes it even more festive in the Christmas City of the North. Here’s a look at some of the fun you can find this week:
First up, Bentleyville has reopened! There was some confusion after the blizzard and Bentleyville did unfortunately have to close for three nights, but I want to make myself clear – BENTLEYVILLE IS OPEN! Volunteers helped dig the massive light display out of the massive blanket of snow and the festive magic has returned to Bayfront Festival Park – woohoo!
Speaking of Bentleyville, take the Bentleyville Train to the light display and avoid any hassles with parking! Tickets are $7 and you can board at Fitger’s. Also now running on the North Shore Scenic Railroad – the Christmas City Express! This excursion includes the reading of the Christmas City Express story, carolers and a very special guest. Be sure to reserve your spots in advance. Get tickets, here.
Since the blizzard made travel difficult beginning last Saturday – Small Business Saturday is getting a re-do this week! Many retailers are extending their promotions to this Saturday, December 7 to make up for last weekend’s nasty weather. Find more information on the Greater Downtown Council’s website.
The St. Louis County Depot is also giving Small Business Saturday another try this Saturday with their Deck the Depot event. Enjoy free admission to the depot to experience festive holiday displays, hot cocoa and cookies, and get some shopping done at the Duluth Art Institute’s HoliDAI Market. Get the details, here.
Saturday AND Sunday this weekend, a very popular holiday market returns to Glensheen for a fourth year – the Duluth Winter Village! Enjoy local shops setup in huts around the Glensheen grounds, treats, beverages, and an overall festive atmosphere. Admission is free! Learn more, here.
Also Saturday and Sunday, the Nice Girls of the North will be hosting their special Holiday Marketplace at the Lakeside-Lester Park Community Center. The Nice Girls are a group of local female artists and their monthly markets are a showcase of their talents – everything from baked goods to clothing! Free parking and free admission. Learn more.
Sunday, December 8, see two of Duluth’s Bed & Breakfasts decked out for the holidays! This Holiday Tour will bring you inside the AG Thomson House in the Congdon Mansion District and inside Solglimt Lakeshore on Park Point. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Check out their Facebook Event for more information.
And Tuesday, December 10, Glensheen will be unveiling their free outdoor light display! Spirit of the Lights is an outdoor display that originated at the home of Marcia Hales on Park Point. The lights will now be shining throughout the Glensheen grounds through December 28. Learn more on their Facebook Event.
Be sure to check the Event Calendar for more fun coming up in Duluth. As always, we hope to see you soon!
