Happy Wednesday! I hope everyone had a very happy Thanksgiving. Now we are in full-fledged holiday season mode! And in Duluth, we have a lot of ways to get you into the holiday spirit this week. Here’s a look:

Friday, Saturday and Sunday this weekend hear the “Sounds of the Season” at UMD! Friday, the Symphony Orchestra takes the stage, Saturday highlights the Symphonic Wind Ensemble & Concert Band, and Sunday showcases the Concert Chorale, University Singers, and Chamber Singers. All concerts takes place at Weber Music Hall. Friday and Saturday concerts are at 7:30pm and the Sunday performance is at 3pm. Get the details, here.

More holiday music can be found Saturday at DECC Symphony Hall, courtesy the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra! Their Home for the Holidays concert will feature a musical day trip that takes you home to celebrate with family and friends. The performance is a 3pm matinee. Tickets.

Also, on Saturday, get a festive run in while battling arthritis! It’s the Arthritis Foundation’s annual Jingle Bell Run, raising funds and awareness to cure arthritis, America’s #1 cause of disability. You are encouraged to wear a favorite holiday costume and tie jingle bells to your shoes! The run begins at 8:45am with registration beginning at 7:30am at the Great Lakes Aquarium. Day-of registration info.

After you get your run in, head over to the DECC for the 3rd Annual Holiday Shopping Expo. 100+ vendors will be set up inside, along with food concessions, and a blood drive. Bring an item for Toys for Tots and you’ll get free admission, otherwise tickets at the door are $4. Details.

Saturday and Sunday, another chance to get some holiday shopping done – but thanks to local artists! The Nice Girls of the North are hosting their Holiday Marketplace at the Lakeside Lester Park Community Center. Admission is FREE. More info.

And, of course, the Duluth Winter Village is a favorite that we can’t forget as it returns to Glensheen for another year of festive shopping, eating and drinking! In addition to perusing local shops, event-goers will be able to enjoy local food and beverages from Sir Ben’s, Va Bene Caffe and Canal Park Brewery; a special Bent Paddle infusion beer; festive cocktails made with Vikre and other spirits, hot cocoa from Mike and Jen’s; coffee and pastries from Duluth Coffee Company, Lake Superior Bakehouse and Zenith Bread Project; plus carol singers, bonfires, complimentary s’mores on the shore of Lake Superior, outdoor lounge, live animals, face painting, a custom photo wall, wreaths and holiday greenery! UFFDAH! That’s a lot. Admission to the Duluth Winter Village is FREE, but please note - PARKING WILL NOT be available at Glensheen, except for disability/handicap parking. Plan to park at UMD in Parking Lot B (follow signs from College Street entrance) and take the shuttle to the Duluth Winter Village. Shuttle service will run from 9:30am until 5:30pm both days.
